Well - One year (almost) down!  After a few bruising weeks of group projects, papers, presentations, and club activities, I only have two exams left before the first year is nothing more than a memory.  I'm getting ready to return to Chicago (I'll actually be living in Barrington with Mom & Dad!) in less than two weeks...  Wedding planning is continuing as well - we had a great time at a recent Shower and have finalized plans for the "smaller" items like limos, flowers, hair, invitations, etc.  I'm still working on the Honeymoon...  We're also happy we "won" the right (in a lottery) to stay in student housing again next year.  It's not the Ritz, but we like the location and convenience of it all.  I can still ride my bike (a relic from my days at NU) to class and we don't need to worry about moving this summer.  Heather is getting ready for a few big events at the Rep but is starting to focus more on final wedding planning.  And, not to forget, we were welcomed to California with our very first earthquake late in the evening last month.  A 5.2 on the Richter scale based down in Gilroy, about 50 miles from here.  It shook the whole building a little bit, but not enough to break anything - just enough to remind us mother nature still controls this place.  ;)

You can see that there have been no significant updates to the website in awhile (other than minor changes to the Wedding Page).  The reason for this is simple - this quarter had me swamped!  With the Academic Committee and Private Equity Club responsibilities, my "free time" remained a distant shore, never to be reached.  This summer, I'm sure, will allow such time.  That said, if anyone reading this has actually been through much of the site, I'm truly impressed.  So regardless, it's probably new to you anyway!  :)

The summer is shaping together...  I spent a nice week down in Belize with 31 (now) close friends from the GSB - we had a great time.  Lots of sun, jungle fun and SCUBA diving (I finished my "Advanced Open Water" certification).  Since I've been back we're getting through our third quarter (a full class load has me busy) and Heather's enjoying many opening night dinners at 'the Rep.'  We've been working on some more wedding details (and as you saw earlier, the page is up) and started Honeymoon planning!  The other news of note is I took a summer job wither Underwriters Laboratories in Chicago.  I'll be working directly with senior management on some global M&A, JV, and business strategy opportunities...
I put the Search function in (below) but still can't get it to work right.  I'll leave it up, but please don't consider it the end-all-be-all!

Life in California is still treating us well.  Heather's completed a few very successful events at the San Jose Repertory Theater and I'm keeping very busy with school.  I was thrilled to make it out to the golf course for the first time just a few weeks ago.  Still find it a little silly to play golf in mid/late February in great weather - there's just something not altogether "right" about that.  ;)  Heather and I both recently celebrated our birthdays with our new friends out here and already feel at home.  Finals are coming up next week and afterwards I'm heading to Belize with 30 other GSB students for some relaxation.

We've recently been working on wedding plans - getting Save the Date cards and other details started.  Be sure to check out the wedding page as we add information, details, and plans.  [We decided to create a direct website address at http://wedding.schueppert.net for ease]  We hope the page(s) will provide a steady channel of information (when time permits to update it - hopefully soon!).

Over the long weekend we were working on scanning Asia photos, so check out the Asia pages (no text yet, just photos).  I also had a fabulous time in Russia and some of the great ones are posted in the Russia section.  (Of course!)

I'm still working on site upgrades and organization, so if a few internal links have been broken, I'm sorry - but please let me know!

The Kremlin and Lenin's Tomb on a cold December night in Red Square.

We also upgraded our internet service as we topped 25MB, 1,000 photos, and 100 pages - all for the first time - with the new Asia and Russia photos!

I'm also trying to organize the "back office" files to this site and improve the logic of the main chapters listed below, so during this process if you're here and a few links are broken, I apologize - just come back to this main page.  Thanks!

(Distributed email)
Hello everyone!

I hope this message finds you well.  Things over the past few months have been EXTREMELY busy for us!  And, from the almost constant flow of messages like this one (contact or other updates), you guys have been busy too!  It’s been a great time and Heather and I are looking forward to sharing our memories – and hearing of yours – sometime soon when time permits.
First, and most important, our hearts go out to anyone who lost a friend or
loved one in the shameless acts of barbarism on September 11th.  While my sister was very close (she walked by five minutes before the 1st plane hit), we are fortunate to still have all our friends.  I haven’t heard from everyone to see if this is the case with you guys as well, but if it isn’t, our thoughts are with you.
On a lighter note, congrats to our friends that made life-changing commitments themselves over the past few months!  We were so excited to hear about Kosty and Halley, Matt and Deb, and (hot off the press) Brent and Tara!
As many of you know, Heather and I spent the summer traveling.  Our two months in Asia were a fantastic journey into the Pacific unknown.  While we had our fill of rice, rice, and more rice, we couldn’t get enough of the friendly faces and characters that made the trip so memorable.  When things calm down a little bit here at Stanford, we’ll get the photos scanned and share them on the website with you guys.  We returned to the States exhausted yet revitalized just in time to hop back on the road to travel to Stanford.  Two-and-a-half weeks and six national parks later, we arrived in California… just in time to return to Chicago for Brian and Heather’s wedding!  ;)
It’s amazing that we’ve been in California now one month – the time has flown by.  We’re not completely settled in yet (every time we go out we need a print-out from MapQuest) but school commitments are already deep.  As many of you know, every graduate program is designed to kick your butt the first semester/year/etc., and I’m right in the middle of that now.  Heather, meanwhile, is having some great success in her job search as she focuses on what she wants to do for (at least) the next few years.

Heather and I had an absolutely wonderful summer.  We're settling in to Stanford and having a great time meeting some fantastic people.  Classes have already started and Heather is busy looking for a job (she's already had a number of interviews).  The summer was absolutely amazing - the two months in Asia was unforgettable (and we'll show you some highlights from the 1,800 photos we took soon), the trip across America (thanks to Heather!) was beautiful and our orientation to both California and campus life has been so much fun.  For the quick and dirty, you can contact us at:

March 14th, 2001 (An email I sent out) - "The important stuff, b-school, and summer invites..."
Friends,
While I have tried to get many calls out and grab as many people as possible in person, I still know I haven't gotten to everyone and therefore am using this email to share the big news AND share new news to almost everyone. (ie, if I did get in touch with you, there's more info...) ;)
Yes, I'M
ENGAGED!
As many of you already know, Heather has been blessing me with her wit, smile, companionship and love for a year now. We met back in 1996 as I was putting together the Make-A-Wish Foundation Auxiliary Board. We started dating a little over a year ago and have been inseparable since. Some of you keen people may have read between the lines in my Holiday Card and yes, I was very subtly hinting at things there - I had already been ring shopping for a few weeks and had the engagement trip booked.

Months of secret planning ended late on February 13th when I swung by Heather's offices at Leo Burnett and grabbed her from a bogus meeting her boss had arranged for me. Grabbing a taxi to "go to the suburbs for dinner," we soon found ourselves at O'Hare and Heather was shocked to see three packed suitcases hidden in the trunk. Minutes and many tears of shock/joy later, we were aboard a flight to Paris landing on Valentine's Day morning. After a fun day of sightseeing, I persuaded Heather to check out the Isle de la Cite at sunset for a beautiful view of the Louvre. While she insisted she "take a nap after this," (she really had no idea!) she trudged out to the end of the island with me. I snapped a few photos, read her a poem about us and ended with the magic words while down on one knee. The red wine may have helped, but nonetheless she accepted and we spent four more wonderful days in Paris.

The attached photos include one with the candy I had ordered for the occasion. I had given a "full" bag to her boss as we were leaving which alerted her friends and co-workers to the upcoming events but obviously kept the "Marry me Hether" [Only 6 letters fit] ones separate until after sunset... We were blessed with great February weather and beautiful views of the Eiffel Tower, my fiancée, and some great nights out. We are looking forward to a Chicago wedding in August 2002.

In other news, we've also made a decision on business schools. Blessed with a great choice, I have decided to go to the Stanford Graduate School of Business next fall. After extensive visits to a number of the other fine schools, the atmosphere, community, and student body of Stanford's environment felt most fitting for my academic and professional pursuits and Heather's and my next adventure together. I haven't lived anywhere in the US outside Chicago and Heather has never lived outside Illinois, so we are very excited to move out to California and immerse ourselves in a new environment.

That brings us to this summer... Stanford commitments begin early September (right after Laz and [the other] Heather's wedding) and [my] Heather and I are thrilled to spend the summer traveling to exotic locations with friends and family that are interested. We are currently investigating starting in Nepal (with my sister Stephanie) in early June. The rest of the schedule is currently up in the air, but we are thinking of China, the Great Wall, and other parts of Asia. More than likely we'll be abroad for June and July, coming back for a few weeks to wrap things up in Chicago and take a micro-tour of the Western US on our way out to California. That said, we are completely open to suggestions (South/West Africa, Russia, etc.) or persuasions from you guys that also have summer time availability!
We look forward to catching up with all of you soon! You can contact me at work (312.382.2215), home/mobile (312.543.6754), or email
